If you're choosing to help to support others, by donating to charities, but you're not sure where to start, here are the charities I donate to and I think they're really worth your time and effort to support - because they help many in lots of successful happy ways.
CENTREPOINT.ORG
Helping young homeless people to build great lives for themselves. Elise explains how they supported her – emotionally and financially:
Here’s what they do overall:
SIGHTSAVERS UK
Sightsavers is an international non-governmental organisation that works with partners in developing countries to treat and prevent avoidable blindness, and promote equality for people with visual impairments and other disabilities.
I received a letter from a young boy called Arthur, who I donated money to help to buy him a pair of glasses he desperately needed to be able to read and train to become an engineer, so he could be independent when he became an adult.
It gave me a great feeling of love from and to Arthur and other people I’d helped to support, making me feel grateful to myself for showing and giving such kindness.
DOGSTRUST
I met a man who works for this great organisation who rehome dogs, who’ve been badly treated and abandoned. They support dogs while they try to find them a home, by walking them, playing with them and feeding them. I chose a dog called Boogie to sponsor, it only costs £12.00 a month, it’s a great feeling knowing a dog you’ve never met, but that looks like (from a photo I was shown of him) he has a gentle and fun nature and he deserves to be well supported until he’s found a permanent home. I’ll receive letters from Boogie’s support letting me know how he’s doing and where he lives for the rest of his life.
I was given a free dog themed bookmark that was a welcome gift. It says on it: you’re helping thousands of dogs across our UK wide network of rehoming centres. A dog is for life, not just for Christmas.
