I don’t know about you, but I take it for granted that I can drink water whenever I’m thirsty here in the UK. It doesn’t matter how much money you have here in the UK, water is easily accessed in most homes. If you don’t have it at home, because you can’t afford your house’s water bill, there are plenty of churches and community groups who are here to give people glasses, jugs & flasks of water to drink & to use when cooking, e.g. boiling vegetables and making gravy or sauces that go many meals.
Also, the water that is given to people who don’t have it at home in the UK, or people who are homeless, is used to be hygienic – to wash every part of one’s face & body.
Other countries aren’t as lucky as us here in the UK:
Mali is a land of incredible resilience, but it is also one of the hottest and driest countries on earth. For families in rural areas, the search for water used to be a daily struggle that kept children out of school and left communities vulnerable to disease.
Tearfund has been working in Mali for more than two decades, focusing on bringing about holistic transformation in communities where the need is greatest. Through our local partners, your support enables a process called Transforming Communities. This training is equipping more than 400 local churches to identify the resources they already have at hand to create lasting solutions to poverty.
If you can regularly donate; that is changing. I donate because I cannot turn the other cheek to people struggling to find / have water in their life. Here’s a link so you can donate to Tearfund too.
If you can only afford to donate a few quid as a one off, you should feel happy that you’ve contributed to this wonderful charity – because every penny counts – don’t you think? I do and I’m chuffed I can afford to donate a few quid every month. I donate every month, because the people struggling to have water in their life problem, isn’t going away...
...If it wasn’t for Tearfund who knows how people in very unfortunate parts of Earth would survive.
